Healthy Environments (Health Protection) team provides regulatory and audit services in the areas of drinking water, waste management, communicable disease control, mosquito surveillance, environmental health, resource management and hazardous substance management. The team also participates in aspects of civil defence and emergency management relating to protection of public health.
The Healthy Environments team is a highly qualified team that monitor many places and factors in the environment. As well as undertaking surveillance activities, for example, monitoring for exotic mosquito species at the points of entry into Northland, the team have various statutory powers to control and abate some of these situations.
