Ward 3 is a general surgical ward with 26 beds.
Various surgical procedures are preformed here, however, not all patients admitted to ward 3 will require surgery.
Ward 3 consists of four, two and single bedded separate sex rooms. Toilets and showers are located in two blocks, across the corridor from the patient rooms. One at each end of the ward. Some of the single rooms have shared ensuites. The dayroom and balcony areas are located at the far end of the ward. Here you will find a TV and some reading material. The nurse’s station is central to all the patient rooms, as is the ward clerk’s desk.
During your day on ward 3, you will be cared for by three different nurses whom each work rostered eight-hour shifts. There is a ward charge nurse available Monday to Friday. Our ward clerk is also available Monday to Friday. Her job includes activities revolving around administration and reception.

Each consultant has a registrar and a house surgeon working for them. The registrar performs a ward round daily, sometimes accompanied by the consultant surgeon.
If you or your family want to discuss your care or treatment, an appointment can be made to see your charge nurse or your doctor. Just ask the nurse looking after you.
When phoning the ward please remember that this is a busy surgical ward and restrict phone calls. When busy the phone will only be taken to patients in an emergency situation. We encourage you to bring a cell phone with you. This will enable your family and friends to contact you directly.
