Te Poutokomanawa (Māori Health Service) comprises of three units that provide the core functions which form the basis for Māori health.
Māori Health Corporate & Leadership
Develops and delivers strategies and initiatives to address inequalities and health disparities for Māori who access services in the Northland DHB region.
Te Kaunihera/Council of Elders
The Council of Elders has been established to provide oversight, advice, direction, and support on matters pertaining to Te Reo me ona Tikanga (Language and Cultural protocols) as it relates to Te Tai Tokerau.
Māori Health Service
Offers cultural support (Takawaenga), education, clinical navigation and advice for Māori patients and their whanau across the four hospitals: Whangarei (09 430 4100), Bay of Islands (09 4040280), Dargaville (09 439 3330) and Kaitaia (09 408 9180).
