Important Information – Red Heavy Rain Warning for Northland
MetService New Zealand has upgraded Northland's warning to a Red Heavy Rain Warning, as well as a Severe Thunderstorm and Strong Wind Watch for Northland.
This warning is in place from 4:00am Tuesday 31 January to 4:00am Wednesday 1 February.
With this heavy rain coming on top of the constant heavy rain we’ve been having, waterways may rise rapidly and become dangerous. Surface flooding, slips and flood water are likely to close roads and disrupt travel. Flooding of low-lying areas is also possible.
Te Whatu Ora Te Tai Tokerau has plans in place to ensure the safety of patients and staff during this potential weather event.
All of our critical clinical services will be continuing although there may be some disruptions. We are anticipating that much of our planned care will also continue as patients have time sensitive and long-awaited treatment and appointments.
Patients are being asked to continue to attend their appointments if they safely can and to contact us if they need to reschedule. We will review this again tomorrow.
Make sure you and your whānau are prepared:
Have your medications and a grab bag ready.
Keep at least a three-day supply of water. You'll need at least three litres of drinking water per person per day (at least nine litres per person for the three days). This equates to four 2.25 litre soft-drink bottles. This will be enough for drinking and basic hygiene.
Make a plan in case of any power outages, if you are isolated, or if you need to evacuate.
Charge your phone or any other electronic items you might need.
Secure outdoor furniture and structures.
Relocate items from any areas of your property that are prone to flooding.
Relocate stock from flood prone areas and bring pets inside.
