The Northland Health Consumer Council (NHCC) was established in 2015 - one of the first for District Health Boards in New Zealand.
NHCC worked collaboratively with Health New Zealand | Te Whatu Ora Te Tai Tokerau to develop effective partnerships and communication pathways between consumers and the health services.
Through true partnership, NHCC provided a strong and viable voice for the community and consumers so that they could engage in health service planning and delivery. The Council strived to enhance consumer experience and service integration across the sector, promote equity and ensure that services were organised around the needs of people.
Through effective processes and communications, the Council received, considered, and disseminated information from and to Health NZ, consumer groups and communities.
The Council also had a quality improvement role and advised and encouraged best practices and innovation.
There have been quite a few people involved since the Council started.
As the chapter ends, we would like to thank members, Lynne Tucker (Chair), Kathryn Sadgrove, Johnny Kumitau, Gavin Lamb, Karōria Johns, Jonny Wilkinson, Corrina Davis for their commitment over the years.
These individuals and the Council members before them gave their time graciously to do this important mahi. We greatly appreciate your contribution.
