Health New Zealand | Te Whatu Ora Te Tai Tokerau, along with our delivery partners, received a Highly Commended award in the category of Collaboration | Kotahitanga, at the 2024 New Zealand Building People Awards for their work on the Te Kotuku Project.
The Te Kotuku Project provides a fit-for-purpose paediatric inpatient ward, neonatal unit, and a new medical laboratory by constructing a vertical extension of the existing facility.
The Te Kotuku team, a group of dedicated professionals, expertly managed a complex and sensitive project with integrity and professionalism.
Despite challenges working above an operational maternity unit, their exceptional problem-solving skills ensured the project stayed on budget and minimised disruptions, instilling confidence in its management.
Clinicians impacted by the project remarked that had never worked with such a collaborative team, not one that listened to their individual needs so well.
By fostering trust, sharing responsibility, and adopting a "slow down to speed up" strategy, the team set a high standard for excellence, demonstrating how effective teamwork can achieve outstanding results.
Congratulations Jeremy Evans, Project Manager (far right) and the team, including Debbie Rihari (third from the left).
