Planned Roadworks at Bay of Islands Hospital through December 2024 and January 2025 | Te Whatu Ora - Te Tai Tokerau

Planned Roadworks at Bay of Islands Hospital through December 2024 and January 2025

Planned roadworks at Bay of Islands Hospital are scheduled to begin on Wednesday 5 December and expected to be completed by the end of January 2025.

The works are necessary to improve access to the hospital and enhance safety for all road users.

They will also address the demand for parking. A section of reclaimed land will be developed into a staff car park. This new car park will help alleviate pressure on existing parking spaces, enabling more parking for patients and improving overall access to the hospital.

Additionally, in response to a recent traffic incident and subsequent traffic safety survey, an area of concern was identified along Chiswell Crescent that requires widening. This section of the road will be widened as part of the project, further improving safety and traffic flow in the area.

What to Expect:

  • Traffic Delays: Due to the nature of the work, there may be temporary disruptions and delays along Chiswell Crescent Road. Health New Zealand is working closely with contractors to minimize these disruptions and we don’t anticipate any significant impact on travel time.

  • Road Closures and Diversions: Some sections of Chiswell Crescent may be temporarily closed or restricted during the works. Signage and traffic management will be in place to guide drivers and pedestrians around the construction zones.

We apologise for any inconvenience this may cause to patients, visitors, and residents.

Access to the Hospital:

  • The hospital will remain accessible throughout the works, and patients will continue to have access to parking. However, we ask for your patience as we work to improve access to the hospital. We encourage you to arrive for your booked appointments up to 15 minutes early to allow time for parking and getting to your appointment.

We greatly appreciate your understanding and patience during this essential work. These improvements are being made to enhance safety and parking availability, ensuring a better experience for patients, staff, and visitors.
