The Communicable Disease Nurse Educators provide public health nursing expertise and support to the investigation and control of communicable disease.
There are two communicable disease educators; one covering the Whangārei/Kaipara area and the other covering the Mid and Far north. They ensure that the school immunisation programmes for Northland are coordinated and delivered according to the immunisation schedule eg the year 7 immunisations. They also coordinate care for TB and rheumatic fever clients and provide ongoing education to nurses and a multidisciplinary health care team on communicable disease management.
People can access the service through the Public Health Nurse.
