Ward 3 is a 34-bed surgical ward. We care for patients with several surgical specialties, from General Surgery, Breast Surgery, Gynaecology, Urology, ENT, Ophthalmology, Maxillofacial and Dental Surgery. Our patients come to us from the Emergency Department and from Theatre following their acute surgery or planned operation. Not all patients admitted will go on to have surgery.
Ward 3 is managed by a Senior Nursing Team led by a Clinical Nurse Manager supported by an Associate Clinical Nurse Manager. The team of Registered and Enrolled Nurses and Health Care Assistants work over three shifts covering each 24 hours. Patients are assigned a nurse each shift.
The surgeons do ward rounds every day. You will be seen by the surgical team, and your plan of care will be discussed with you. If you need to discuss this further, please don’t hesitate to ask your nurse or ask to speak to the Charge Nurse.
There is a Multi-Disciplinary Team (MDT) working across surgical services, including Ward Clerks, a Social Worker, Dietician, a Pharmacist, a Physiotherapist, Occupational Therapist, and Takawaenga (Māori Health Liaison). Chaplains are available on request.
Families/whānau are welcome to support our patients.
Kaitiaki - Partners in Care (key support people nominated by the patient) are welcome to attend the ward rounds or to speak to the medical team and/or members of the MDT. The staff will facilitate this as requested.
Click here for visiting hours. Kaitiaki Partners in Care - key support people nominated by the patient can visit daily from 8am - 8pm.
