Chris Harmston, Director of Research

Chris is a consultant general and colorectal surgeon in Te Tai Tokerau and an honorary Associate Professor at the University of Auckland. He is a leader in collaborative general surgical research in New Zealand.
 
Chris set up STRATA, a general surgical trainee research collaborative, and led the delivery of five national collaborative studies. In Northland, Chris established the relationship agreement with Aotearoa Clinical Trials, giving patients access to commercially funded studies.

He has rolled out the general surgical research and masters programme in Northland, resulting in the publication of over fifty peer-reviewed publications. He has been awarded two Health Research Council grants, including a research activation grant for developing a strategic approach to research in Northland.
