Manawa Ora

Manawa Ora is a free service that supports whānau with tamariki to create warmer, drier, healthier homes.

Manawa Ora may be able to provide:

  • insulation
  • curtains
  • carpet (in Kāinga Ora houses)
  • heating
  • beds and bedding. If you have a Community Services Card, and you are pregnant or have children under five (5), you may be eligible.

Talk to the following people about making a referral for you or make your own referral:

  • Doctor
  • Midwife or Lead Maternity Carer
  • Your ward nurse (if you have recently been in hospital)
  • Public health nurse
  • Family Start or social worker
  • Plunket nurse or Tamariki Ora nurse.

Manawa Ora may be able to help regardless of your housing situation – whether you live in your own home, a rental, a Kainga Ora house, or need help to find a home.

For referrers

All referrals go to the Manawa Ora ‘Hub’. Referrals are usually processed within two to three days.

If you are eligible, you will be contacted and a community health worker/kaimahi from one of the Whānau Ora providers across Northland will be assigned to your whānau. They will contact the family, visit them in their home, and complete a comprehensive housing assessment.

This will identify what housing interventions may be able to be provided to make the home warmer and drier.
